In 2019, the Miami Heat selected G Tyler Herro out of Kentucky. When he first entered the league, many questioned if his talents from college would transfer over to the NBA. He seemed to throw those questions out of the window when he broke out in the 2020 shortened season. He was a huge reason why Miami went on the run that they did which ultimately took them to the NBA finals. When Herro broke out, many believed Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra found Miami’s next young stud. However, Herro went on to have a disappointing second year in the league averaging 15.1 PTS, 3.4 AST, with a .360 3P%.

2022 season

After Herro’s second year in the league, many wondered what his third professional season would look like, well so far, he is tearing it up for the Miami Heat. Herro just recorded his sixth straight game with 20 or more points off the bench and is looking like the best 6th man in the league. He is averaging 20.8 PTS, 4.0 AST, all while shooting a great 42.5% from three-point range. Herro and the Miami Heat find themselves on top of the Eastern Conference with a record of 44-22 with a 3-game lead. Herro is a game changer off the bench and is involved in an extremely deep Miami guard position alongside Kyle Lowry and the returned, Victor Oladipo. There is no doubt that Herro is the leader of the Heat’s bench and has all the potential in the world to turn into Miami’s next great superstar.

What to Expect in Herro’s Future

Tyler Herro seems to have found a home in Miami. He was another great pick from Miami’s front office. As stated before, Miami finds themselves at the top of the East. If all goes as planned, there’s no doubt that the Heat could capture their first title since the big 3 era. With this team’s chemistry clicking so well, it just adds to Herro’s case. Herro coming off the bench seems like the best thing that could’ve happened to him and the Miami Heat. The bench runs through Herro, and you can see that when he’s on the court. He has great energy and is developing into a nice floor general. When Herro enters the game subbing for Lowry or Oladipo, the other team can’t catch a break. Miami’s guard position is so deep that it allows Herro to have his full potential show. Being around vets such as Lowry, Oladipo, and Butler will only help mold Herro into the next great player in franchise history.

When asked about what Kyle Lowry and Jimmy Butler mean to him as leaders of the team, he stated:

Per Bleacher Report

B/R: How much of a difference is there between his (Kyle) leadership style and Jimmy's?

Herro: I've got a good relationship with both of them. I'm able to lean on Jimmy in different ways and I lean on Kyle in different ways. Just to have both of them on the same floor, on the same as me, I think it's big for my career.

With this kind of leadership Tyler has surrounding him, it’s a reminder of young Dwayne Wade with Penny Hardaway as well as Shaquille O’Neal. Heat fans are excited to see their young stud play with veterans who can only help him craft his game even more and they have every right to feel that way. Miami struck gold when they picked “boy wonder” with the 13th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft and he shows no sign of slowing down.
